more viruses - new warnings from our is department

There is yet another email virus going around the world that is called the bagel.j@mm worm. (although if you recieve this email, it will not be called this) This email will have an attachment and will have a spoofed From: email address that may look like it is for "all staff" or from "it support" or something similar. Please be advised that the IS department would NEVER send you a patch or program to install via email. Do not install any software on your computer under any circumstances as this is a violation of the computer usage policy at Cogent. If you recieve such an email either at home or at work, delete it immediately and do not open the attachment.

Thank you for your cooperation, below is a list of the possible email messages that this may show up as:

1) Your e-mail account has been temporary disabled because of unauthorized access. Our main mailing server will be temporary unavaible for next two days, to continue receiving mail in these days you have to configure our free
auto-forwarding service.
2) Your e-mail account will be disabled because of improper using in next
three days, if you are still wishing to use it, please, resign your
account information.
3) We warn you about some attacks on your e-mail account. Your computer may contain viruses, in order to keep your computer and e-mail account safe, please, follow the instructions.
4) Our antivirus software has detected a large ammount of viruses outgoing from your email account, you may use our free anti-virus tool to clean up your computer software.Some of our clients complained about the spam (negative e-mail content) outgoing from your e-mail account. Probably, you have been infected by a proxy-relay trojan server. In order to keep your computer safe, follow the instructions.

Amazing that this lil hackers take the time to learn so much code, but fail to get basic grammar.

there is, of course, a simple solution to these things: don't use MS mail programs

Symantec Anti-Virus has updated their virus definitions. As long as your defs are dated at least 3-1-04, you're protected. (I don't know where McCafee stands on this)
